Produce Update

The quality of the nectarines and peaches is impressive, and prices will continue to go down as supplies increase. Mangoes are fantastic value this week with great supplies from the Northern Territory and Queensland.

Blueberries coming from NSW continue to impress with their strong run of quality, while strawberry supplies from Victoria, South Australia and Stanthorpe, although good quality, have been affected by recent rain, so expect to pay a bit more.

Versatile limes have a rich tangy flavour, are less acidic than lemons and provide a generous boost of vitamin C. As supplies increase, lime prices are easing. To obtain the maximum juice from a lime, warm the fruit in the microwave for 30 seconds or roll firmly on the kitchen bench, then squeeze.

Queensland is Australia’s biggest sweet potato producer with, over 90% grown around Bundaberg. With its attractive orange flesh and rich, creamy texture, sweet potato is delicious roasted, boiled, microwaved or steamed. Sweet potato is very versatile, use it in both sweet or savoury dishes and even in summer salads!

This week we have made the switch to both Red and Green Australian Grapes coming from Queensland. It is great to finally be able to support our Australian growers. The varieties that we are currently sourcing are the Green Menindee Grapes and Red Flame Seedless Grapes, as the weeks go by, we will see the volume increasing meaning prices will improve.

This week’s top pick is green beans! Fresh green beans are great in salads, stir-fries or taste delicious when sautéed in melting butter with garlic. Choose young, firm, vibrant green straight pods that snap crisply. Store in a plastic bag in the crisper section of the fridge and consume within one to four days.
