Our Commitment to Sustainability & Quality

JL King & Co and Simply Tasty have taken a strategic, multi-faceted approach to sustainability across every part of our operations. From responsible sourcing and smarter production to energy efficiency and waste reduction, we are committed to making meaningful improvements that support long-term environmental responsibility while maintaining the high quality our customers expect.

A major focus has been upgrading our East Bendigo facility with advanced production and automation equipment, including energy-efficient cooking, cooling, washing, and weighing systems. These upgrades have improved consistency and food safety, reduced waste, and increased production efficiency, while minimising manual handling and human error. The result is a safer workplace, higher-quality products, and a more efficient use of resources.

We have also made significant investments in energy and infrastructure.

The installation of a 475kW solar power system has reduced our reliance on grid electricity, supported by energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems throughout the facility. A heat recovery system now captures waste heat from refrigeration and repurposes it to generate hot water without using gas, while our refrigeration system uses natural ammonia refrigerants with a lower environmental impact.

Water conservation and waste reduction remain key priorities. Our closed-loop wastewater system treats and recycles water on-site, reducing overall water consumption while meeting strict environmental compliance standards. High levels of recycling, reprocessing of production waste, and ongoing efforts to minimise packaging waste further demonstrate our commitment to diverting materials from landfill wherever possible.

In parallel, we have introduced new sustainable practices across packaging, sourcing, and planning.

Key product lines have transitioned to recycled and recyclable packaging, while improved inventory management and production planning have reduced food waste. By continuing to source locally grown Australian produce, we lower our carbon footprint and support the farming communities that underpin our supply chain.

At JL King & Co, sustainability is not a single initiative - it’s an ongoing commitment.
By embedding sustainability into how we operate every day, we’re building a business that is responsible,
resilient, and focused on delivering quality food solutions for the future.
