Market Report March 3rd 2020

Brussel sprouts

Fresh market update: Wednesday 3rd - Tuesday 10th of March 2020

Produce update

Over the past few months, we have experienced irregular weather conditions that have not been seen in our growing regions in decades. Ranging from heat waves and fires to hail storm and flooding.

All this resulting in our produce getting affected in not only quality but pricing as well.

We strive to do our best to provide the best quality produce available, please be patient as we work through this difficult time.

Tomatoes

This year we have experienced a pretty lean year with our Local gourmet Tomato supply from Gilliestone, due to a dry and hot start to the growing season. This week we have great specials in Roma and Cherry Tomatoes, both a great alternative to gourmet. Another great alternative that is currently available in the market is large and small Medley’s.

Mushrooms

This week we have seen a shortage of all white mushrooms. This is mainly due to a couple of farms having compost issues. We have been able to fully supply orders but pricing has increased. Today we see Pine Mushrooms in the Market. A little earlier than normal, but summer rain has sprung them to life.

Lettuce, Broccoli, Cauliflower

With the colder nights starting in Victoria and higher expectations of our produce interstate has tightened up some of our main vegetable lines this week.

Leafy Greens

Following up from last week. Our major supplier Rivera Farms has struggled to supply us with their produce due to the weather patterns over the summer months. We are hoping this will not last much longer. In the meantime we are looking for the best quality produce out of the market but all stock and quality has been affected. We ask for patience at this time and recommend only purchasing as needed to reduce loss.

Brussel Sprouts

Local Victorian supply has started from a couple of small growers. Our major supplier, Adam’s Farms start next week which will start to see prices ease.
