Market Report December 4th 2019

Mangoes

Fresh market update: Wednesday 4th December - Tuesday 10th December 2019

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

With the holiday season just around the corner its time to start enjoying all the beautiful fruit this time of the year brings.

Australian Grapes

This week we have made the switch to Australian Grapes coming from Queensland. It’s great to finally be able to support our Australian growers. The varieties that we are currently sourcing are the green Menindee Grapes and red Flame seedless Grapes, as the weeks go by we will see the volume increasing meaning prices will improve.

Berries

It’s the best time of the year to be purchasing all varieties of Berries. Blueberries, Raspberries and Blackberries are great eating with flavour at its best and great value with a steady supply coming into the market for the festive season. Strawberries are a little tight due to the cooler weather, but with some warmer weather expected, volumes will increase. Cherries, the pick of all berries with the Victorian season only lasting 6 weeks they are in their prime right now. We are seeing prices easing by the day.

Apples

Now is the time of year where our Apples are coming out of cool storage, this meaning they have all been picked off the trees and stored in cool rooms. You will notice the appearance will start to dull until the new season fruit starts which is normally around March/April. We have just had our last load from our local Harcourt grower of Pink Lady’s which means we will start to purchase out of the market for the next few months.

Seasonal Challenges

Every week we try to notify our customers of some products that are becoming hard to source.

Pumpkin

Unfortunately due to drought conditions in the growing regions up in Queensland, all the varieties of Pumpkin have become very tight to source. We will be trying our best to fill orders of Butternut, Jap and Grey Pumpkin over the next few months, also expect prices to rise. This will also affect our processing department with our peeled Pumpkin.

Silverbeet

Our major growers of Silverbeet has informed us that it’s the time of year where the crops has gone to seed so volume and quality is hard to acquire. Luckily this is only expected to last another few weeks until the new season crops are ready for harvest.

Watercress

This has also gone to seed and with our major grower unable to supply, it’s very hit and miss in gaining supply from other growers. We will do our best over the next 4 weeks till new season becomes more available.
